We understand that the first experience of God comes through families and that parents are the first and primary educators of their children (Sharing the Light of Faith, Directory of Catechesis).
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston requires ongoing catechesis for children through 12 grade. The Church views the role of parents in the religious formation of children as both a privilege and obligation.
When you present your child to the church for Baptism, you are distinctly reminded that you have the responsibility of “raising them in the practice of faith (Rite of Baptism).
Faith formation is a lifelong process that includes weekly opportunities for worship at Sunday Mass. As parents, we know we cannot truly be successful in our roles as faith formers without providing our children with BOTH formal religious education and regular weekly attendance at Mass (National Directory for Catechesis).
While we take a break from classes for the summer months: May through August to enjoy a vacation and rest we do NOT vacation from God. Please be sure to attend Mass weekly with your family even when you travel.
